Invitation to participate in CILT Cymru/ Cânsing Training Days (Holiday Inn, Newport)
12 Oct 2012
CILT Cymru is tasked by the Welsh Government to support the teaching and learning of modern foreign languages in Wales. ContinYou Cymru's Singing Programme, CânSing, is funded by the Welsh Government and the aim of this work is to raise the profile and standard of singing across Wales by extending opportunities and improving the quality of provision and delivery within schools.
- CILT Cymru and CânSing have collaborated to produce suite of resources to support the teaching of Modern Foreign Languages through singing. The resource comprises versions in French, Spanish and German of the traditional Welsh folk song Ar LanY Môr. These are designed to support work at Key Stages 2 and 3 through providing an engaging way of enhancing pupils’ literacy skills across languages.
- In order to publicise and support the wider use of these materials CILT Cymru and CânSing will deliver four free training events. The training will be delivered jointly by CânSing animateurs and CILT Cymru Language Teaching Advisers and the days will focus on methodology and resources for MFL and singing.
- Funding is available for up to 20 teachers from each consortium area to attend the events. Supply cover will be refunded to each teacher’s school following their attendance on the day. We must advise that, once registered, teachers who fail to attend the day will be liable for the costs of the day.
- The training days are designed for secondary MFL teachers, especially those who may be closely involved with Key Stage 2 to 3 transition arrangements.
