CILT Cymru: supporting the teaching and learning of Modern Foreign Languages in Wales
CILT Cymru’s programme is based on objectives outlined in the Welsh Government’s Action Plan: Making Languages Count – modern foreign languages in secondary schools and Learning Pathways 14-19
The National Curriculum:
The school curriculum for 3 to 19-year-olds in Wales, implemented from September 2008, established a curriculum for the twenty-first century. It meets the needs of individual learners whilst taking account of the broader needs of Wales.
The requirements for modern foreign languages at Key Stage 3 are set out in Modern foreign languages in the national curriculum for Wales. This document contains the programmes of study for the key stage, together with attainment targets and level descriptions. It also contains a non-statutory framework for teaching modern foreign languages in Key Stage 2.
Modern Foreign Languages: guidance for key stages 2 or 3 (pdf file 3 MB) and a document outlining Skills and learning in Modern Foreign Languages (pdf file 150kb) are also available.
