CILT Cymru Business Language Champion, Tim Penn (Signature Leather) South Wales "Careers with Languages Road Trip"

04 Mar 2015

Following a highly successful West Wales road trip, Tim Penn, Director of Signature Leather http://signature-leather.com/ joined CILT Cymru on a whistle-stop tour of South and South East of Wales based schools to talk to Year 9 pupils about the benefits of continuing to develop their foreign language skills at GCSE level.

In his discussion with pupils, he talks about the value of having foreign language skills for business and asks what they are doing to prepare themselves for future employment, how they will make their CVs stand out in an increasingly competitive jobs market and makes them aware of the opportunities Wales and the European Union have to offer if they develop these important skills. It is unfortunate that as Europe and the rest of the world are busy internationalising themselves for the future, the constraints in Welsh schools mean that our pupils will be at a disadvantage unless they make a positive decision during their option choices. Learning a language is one way of making themselves more employable, and that this is made clear to them during such visits.

If you would like CILT Cymru to organize a similar motivational careers talk for your Year 9 pupils in the run up to options time, please contact info@ciltcymru.org.uk  and see our NEW RESOURCES section for our latest MFL promotional resources.

Furthermore, if you were unable to attend one of our Regional Uptake Meetings and would like to access additional resources through our EDMODO network, please send your name, school name and email to nia.jones@ciltcymru.org.uk
