Using the FLA at KS3 - some ideas
|
|
- Helping in class: modelling role plays, assisting pupils, stimulating
oral work
- Cultural explanation/discussion
- Language support during cover lessons when cover teacher is not an
MFL specialist
- Speaking practice with small groups
- Helping pupils with IT work, helping surfing on Internet
- FLA used as option boost in Yr 9
- Creation of materials
- Buy games for them to play with small groups. That way there is a
real context for using the target language (e.g. Happy families, Cluedo,
Monopoly)
- Ask them to act out presentations, rather than have pupils listen
to tapes
- Record them reading texts or performing dialogues - collaborate by
using the FLAs from neighbouring schools and share the tapes
- Ask them to present topics from their own point of view - e.g. family,
spare time etc.
- Ask them to be the native speaker who is the unexpected element in
the role play
- Ask them to intervene in pair/group work to correct pronunciation
- Use them to diagnose problems - e.g. get them to write down words
which are commonly mis-pronounced
- Motivating weaker groups - FLA used as a reward (go to her/him to
play games etc)
- FLA competition-
pupils to find out as much as they can about the FLA in a given time
period. (To practise questioning).
