What's new for Key Stage 2 ?

The Junior Language Challenge 2008

This unique competition was set up to give thousands of children across the country a headstart in learning languages.

Experts agree that the more practice we all have at learning a new language - any language at all - the better we become at picking up a new tongue. And the younger, the better.

This competition challenges primary school children to learn up to three languages in under 9 months, starting with Dutch!

Want to take the Challenge - read more here!

BSF - Better Schools Fund: April 2008-09

For the first time, Priority 1C in next year's BSF is:
"The Introduction of a modern foreign language at Key Stage 2"

This area is therefore eligble for grant support via your LEA.

It is envisaged that clusters of schools work together with their local Comprehensive schools(s) to enrich KS2, support Transition arrangements and maximise impact at KS3.

Each LEA will have their own arangements/plans for this area of eligibility, so consult your local BSF representative to find out what possible activity is planned for schools within your authority.

MFL at KS2 will remain an Assembly Priority Area for 3 years:
2008-09
2009-10
2010-11
