The future for Primary MFL in Wales….
With the official end of the CILT Cymru/Welsh Assembly Government KS2 Pilot Project (2003-2009) in the summer term of 2009, our attention is now focused on the future of primary modern languages in Wales.
The next steps are to share the good practice that exists in Wales and to extend the opportunities for MFL in primary schools.

"Getting Started"
Guidance to support the Introduction of a Modern Foreign Language
in Key Stage 2.
This CILT Cymru guidance has been commissioned by the Welsh
Assembly Government to disseminate the innovation and good
practice emerging from the KS2 MFL Pilot Project (2003-2009).
It provides step by step guidance, designed for primary, secondary
school or LEA staff, specialists and non-specialists alike,
wanting to introduce or develop provision of a MFL in KS2.
|
| |
| The
pack focuses on:
- the benefits of an early start;
- building partnerships between clusters of primary and
secondary schools to facilitate provision of a MFL in KS2;
- accessing funding;
- good practice and ideas for classroom activities based
on the non-statutory framework for MFL in KS2;
- good practice in transition from KS2-KS3 and how secondary
schools can build on the early start
- practical advice, planning templates, useful contacts
and ideas for resources.
