Key Stage
2 Primary Project PHASE 2: 2006 - 2009 |
|
Phase 1 (2003-06) began as a 3-year pilot to support
clusters of primary and secondary schools that wanted to introduce a foreign language
at KS2 in Wales. A valuable evidence base was gathered by the Welsh Assembly
Government of how teaching and learning a foreign language in the form of the
Independent Interim Report. Such was the success of this pilot, that
the Welsh Assembly offered a further 3-year extention. Phase
2 (2006-09) will continue to develop the language skills of pupils and
teachers in the primary sector whilst looking closely at how pupils are progressing
in Key Stage 3. Greater emphasis will now be put on the role of the secondary
school both in terms of building on pupils’ prior knowledge and continuing
to work with their feeder schools to ensure the existence of effective transition
arrangements.
An Independent Evaluation (ARAD Evaluators)
of Phase2 will take place throughout 2008 and 2009 culminating in a second Final
Reportwhich will be presented to the Assembly Government in Autumn 2009. ARAD
will visit all secondary schools in the Project and a sample of primary schools.
They will talk to Headteachers and class teachers aswell as key stakeholders within
LEAs and other institutions. We look forward to working with them
and seeing the impact of the Project in KS3 thus far...
