Best thing about the course
The year out was definitely an experience. Also as the Spanish Dept. at
Aberystwyth has a very good reputation, the modules on offer were varied
& really interesting.
Where did you spend your year out?
In Toulouse & Seville.
Do you think that the fact that you studied languages helped
you to obtain this post? In terms of studying French-yes.
Could you tell us more about the nature of the job outlining
main tasks and responsibilities?
Preparation & teaching of 3 different levels in a secondary school.Co-ordinating
the second year level and following the official government education
program.
Do you use your languages frequently? If so, in which situations?
Only French unfortunately as I live and work in France.
What other jobs have you done since leaving university?
Only teaching English out here & occasional sales work.
What is the best thing about learning another language in your
opinion?
It means doors are opened to you in other countries whether it is in terms
of work, communication or culture.
What would you say to those who are reluctant to carry on with
their languages?
DO IT! Prove to people who aren’t British/English-speaking that
we do not expect everyone to speak English & that we are more than
capable of at least being able to communicate on a survival basis.
