Learning Spanish from scratch and the depth of study of French. Cultural
modules also very interesting and the social life together with opportunity
to live in Barcelona priceless.

main tasks and
responsibilities?
Manning 24 helpline for people who have an accident or crisis abroad.
Everything from verifying their travel insurance and paying their medical
bills through to air ambulance repatriation or bringing people home in
an emergency. A very interesting and fast paced job.
Do you use your languages frequently? If so, in which situations?
Yes, every day, to speak to medical staff to obtain medical information
about patients or translate between doctors organising repatriation details.
Also, to organise services such as hotel accommodation or transport for
patients or relatives.
What other jobs have you done since leaving university?
I am now working as a secondary school teacher of French and Spanish.
What is the best thing about learning another language in your
opinion?
The ability to communicate to people around the world and have insight
into other cultures and benefit from them.
What would you say to those who are reluctant to carry on with
their
languages?
Don’t give up! You never know when it might come in handy and it
can make your life and your holidays abroad so much more interesting.
It can also help you get an excellent job and it a perfect way to keep
the brain active.
