Languages Wales 2008

Record numbers of delegates attended this year's 'Languages Wales' conference and exhibition in Swansea. Assembly Education & Skills Minister Jane Hutt addressed an audience made up of primary, secondary, FE and University teachers, as well as representatives from LEAs and agencies such as British Council Wales, Goethe Institut and the Confucius Institute. Ms Hutt urged delegates to respond to the 'Languages Count' consultation document, which is due to appear in 2008, and spoke of her visit to the Tregaron cluster of schools, which has been successfully introducing MFL at Key Stage 2.

A range of major publishers attended the event, and Networks for Excellence launched new Welsh-medium resources to complement the Certificate in Business Language Competence.

A new CILT Cymru DVD entitled 'Making Languages Count' was also launched. A free copy of this resource, which features good practice filmed in 'Compact' schools all over Wales, will be sent to all schools and colleges in Wales during Autumn Term.
