Animation Competition Winners 2009

Success for Prestatyn High School and St Illtyd’s Primary in Abertillery

We are delighted to announce that the following schools have won the CILT Cymru Animation Competition for 2009.

St. Illtyd’s Primary School in Abertillery won the KS2 category of the competition. The winning entry was a beautifully crafted storyboard which featured plasticine figures playing a game of ‘Jacques a dit’. The story also has a wonderful sting in the tail. The judges liked the creative and accurate use of language and were very impressed with the effort made to devise a storyboard which would translate effectively into an amusing short film.

Prestatyn High School won the KS3 category of the competition. The winning entry was an extremely imaginative and well-designed storyboard featuring Roméo the recycling bug and Boris the bin. The storyboard featured hand-drawn figures in a variety of scenes which again translated easily into a short animated film. The winning group had been very creative in their use of language which displayed a high degree of accuracy.

The animation company, moonoo productions, came to both schools and guided pupils through the making of each film. Pupils were involved in the production process at all stages and thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the creative process. As an added bonus, other pupils from the winning schools who had also submitted entries were able to participate in aspects of the production workshops.

Both short films will appear on our website soon and we look forward to running an even bigger competition next year.
