bullet Name: Clare Lloyd

bullet Occupation: Mid Morning Radio presenter on Red Dragon FM. Welsh Presenter of the Year Award Winner 2005.

bullet Languages: Currently learning Spanish and studied French and German in school

You recently mentioned on the radio that you are learning Spanish. At what level?
It's partly self-teaching with Linguaphone and partly at college through the Pasos books.

Why did you decide to learn Spanish?
Part of my family is Spanish. Therefore, I feel a little left behind! I have always been interested in learning another language and therefore Spanish seems most appropriate, especially as it's the second most spoken language in the world.

Are you enjoying learning Spanish?
I love it! It's hard at times but worth it when it suddenly clicks into place!!

Did you have any previous knowledge of learning a language at school?
I studied German and French but only for two years.

As a Radio Presenter you are obviously a good communicator. Do you think that learning a new language improves your communication skills in your own language?
Good point! Learning Spanish is a new experience - I think that learning anything new frees the mind and has given me opportunities to communicate my experience on air.

Do any of the other Red Dragon Presenters speak another language and are some learning Welsh?
Not that I am aware of- there are opportunities however to learn Welsh, which is a great idea, as it gets us to feel closer to the Welsh speaking listeners.

Would you recommend learning a new language to others and why?
Definitely, to have the knowledge to communicate in a foreign language is an amazing skill to have. A few years studying for a lifetime of enjoyment!
